What are the Layers of a Tennis Court System?
Artificial turf, produced as an alternative to natural grass, allows for easy play on all kinds of sports thanks to the advantages it provides. It is widely used in every field such as football, volleyball, basketball, tennis, horse riding tracks, running tracks, walking paths, children's playgrounds, and indoor carpet field construction. Although it resembles natural grass in terms of appearance and usability, it is preferred because it is more durable than natural grass. It offers significant advantages in terms of watering costs, maintenance expenses, and time spent. Artificial turf, woven from polyute yarn and filled with rubber granules, has been approved by a FIFA decision to cover football stadiums. All official and international competitions are played on artificial turf carpets. These durable turf carpets are resistant to all kinds of weather conditions. Especially the holes on it provide water permeability. This allows the grass to dry faster in rainy weather. Artificial turf, which reduces the risk of player injury from slipping, is quite economical. The main acrylic tennis court layers include Primer, Recurfacer, Cushion Layer, color layer, and line paint. These layers, applied for , are similar to tennis court construction. The Primer layer, applied to increase the adhesion of the asphalt base, is made of a transparent, one-component acrylic polymer.
Tennis Court Construction Stages
The same stages are applied in tennis court construction as in indoor carpet field construction. First, the foundation trench is dug, the reinforced concrete foundation is laid, gravel is spread and compacted on top, the field perimeter is enclosed with wire fences and nets, then lighting is installed, and the construction is completed by laying the artificial turf carpet. The recurfacer, the second layer of the tennis court, is mixed with concentrated 100% acrylic latex binder and silica sand and applied to the surface. The Recurfacer Layer, applied to increase the adhesion of the Cushion system, is a one-component acrylic polymer. The cushion layer, an acrylic tennis court underlayment material without pigment, contains granulometric rubber. It provides elasticity to the surface. The color layer, used to control the speed of the game, is acrylic tennis court paint filled with silica sand.
