Reasons for Not Using Electric Cars
Benefits of Electric Cars Today
The popularity of electric vehicles is increasing day by day. Although they travel a short distance despite long charging times, it is thought that this problem will be overcome with the developing technology. Today, we see that electric cars are increasingly on the agenda. We encounter more electric-powered models among newly produced cars. In fact, contrary to popular belief, the production of electric cars is not new. It is known that the first electric cars were introduced to the market in the 1900s. However, at that time, the development of petroleum and the ability to refuel vehicles more practically and quickly, allowing them to travel longer distances, led to electric vehicles being gradually forgotten. Today, the fact that petroleum pollutes the air and is becoming more expensive than electricity has allowed people to turn to electric cars again. In recent years, many car brands have included electric cars in the types they produce. It is now possible to easily purchase rechargeable models from various brands. However, despite electricity being cheaper than petroleum, the number of electric vehicle users in traffic is quite low. When the main reason for this is investigated, we can see that people are afraid of their rechargeable vehicle running out of charge in the middle of the road. Moreover, the fact that charging stations are not as widespread as gas stations prevents these vehicles from being preferred. Of course, these are not the only reasons; when their prices are compared, we can see that gasoline vehicles are offered for sale at a more affordable price and in more diverse models. The replacement of depleted batteries costing at least half the price of a vehicle also seems to cause these vehicles to remain in the background for a while longer.
How Widespread Have They Become in Our Lives
Countries that are aware of the depletion of petroleum resources have initiated various studies to popularize electric vehicles. Governments have allocated funds for more affordable and long-lasting batteries that can travel longer distances. China is at the forefront of these countries. It has been possible to see electric vehicles in traffic in China since 2010. The state is also ensuring the widespread use of charging stations as an alternative to gas stations. In recent times, news about the spread of such stations in America has been widely covered in the media. While most electric vehicle owners in America prefer to charge at home, the developing infrastructure increases the preference for electric vehicles. In our country, there does not seem to be enough interest in such vehicles yet, but it is aimed to increase domestic production and use these vehicles more through various state incentives. It is thought that the fact that a vehicle traveling 100 kilometers uses only four or five lira worth of electricity will rapidly increase interest in these vehicles.
