COVA Form and Official Document Dynamics in the China Visa Application Process

Photo Criteria and Invitation Letter Details During China Visa Application

The People's Republic of China is one of the countries with the strictest procedures on the Asian continent, directly reflecting its stringent border controls in the visa application stage. While holders of ordinary (burgundy) passports from Turkey are required to obtain a visa for travel, official diplomatic or service passports may benefit from certain temporary exemptions. Marina Vize strategically manages every step, from file analysis to the consulate appointment, for applicants who wish to navigate this arduous bureaucracy quickly and smoothly. The digital form, filled out via the COVA (China Online Visa Application) system, which is the first and most fundamental step of the process, is a multi-layered declaration covering the applicant's entire family history, international travel over the last five years, and professional background.

AVAS System and Biometric Fingerprint at the China Visa Application Appointment

The biometric photo standards set by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China have distinct technical differences from international standards; photos measuring 33x48 mm, with a white background, where the ears and forehead are fully visible, teeth are not shown, and absolutely no jewelry is worn, are mandatory. The digital image uploaded to the system is not sufficient on its own for system approval; the physical printout to be submitted to the application center must also adhere to these rules with millimeter precision. For applications in the commercial (M) or work (Z) categories, the authenticity of the barcoded invitations (TE Invitation) approved by the official authorities in China or sealed invitation letters prepared on company letterhead is directly verified by consulate officials. After the form filling and document sorting are completed, the process continues at the China Visa Application Service Center (Istanbul or Ankara) with an appointment created through the AVAS (Appointment for Visa Application Submission) platform. All applicants between the ages of 14 and 70 are obliged to be present in person at the center to submit their fingerprint scans and facial recognition data. Although the biometric data collected is stored in the China Consulate's database for five years, updates may be requested at certain intervals. Since even a single missing document during the appointment can lead to the cancellation of the entire appointment and the process starting from scratch, submitting a complete file is mandatory.
